My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
After pre-ordering the first hard copy of an album in years, denying the urge to direct download, I eventually gave my ears the pleasure of a first listen to the universally praised Kanye West’s ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ in it’s finished entirety. And to no disappointment.
At first I was going to simply download this album, after the habit of doing so with...

Lithography Prints
So for the last couple weeks I’ve been returning home covered in ink, in an array of colours due to the ‘Manifesto’ project which is gradually coming to an end.
I’ll let the images below communicate the progress of the litho-printed poster/booklet.
A fair amount of time was spent achieving the perfect colour tone that would work through red transparency,...

Japanese Political Posters
Courtesy of one of my regularly visited sites; http://pinktentacle.com/
A selection of ‘Political’ posters from a past era (think 60s to 80s), direct from Japan.
The ‘Hiroshima Appeals’ image sending the mixed signal of both beauty/tragedy is definitely the stand out for me. Visit PinkTentacle for more.

MADE
MADE: Typographic Ballet featuring Ebon Heath & Talib Kweli from hypebeast.tv on Vimeo. Big up to Elayne (the original G) for pointing me over to this video. Such a glorious find, MADE is yet another place to visit when I head over to Berlin next year. The ideas Ebon Heath has conjured up for the ‘Typographic Ballet’ is executed to perfection, and Talib Kweli? Icing on the cake.

Assignment 3
For Assignment 3 of my ‘Design Studies’ coursework was to achieve a better understanding of the University Library’s Cross-search tool which allows you access to more journals/books/articles relating to any and every topic you can think of. I found this difficult to work at first as the interface can be a bit intimidating when you’re face with thousands of pieces of text,...

'That belongs in a museum'
‘That belongs in a museum’ or put it back where it came from. This weeks lecture focused in on War Artists and the lengths they go to, to record a moment in time. In places where cameras can’t be used without putting themselves in danger, war artists choose to sketch out what’s happening around them to capture what’s around them. I think we take the people who...

Grampian Mountains
Reserved a post to big up the brother, Craig. Also an excuse to post up his two most recent ‘Ivy’ flyers, which I’m much too fond of. Colourway on the November one is something else.
Do yourself a favour and head over to his blog for visuals to savour.

Do you see what I see?
Progress is being made on one of my current University projects; the outcome is to be an A3 poster which doubles as a booklet documenting a manifesto based on a combination of a given profession & art movement. Baffled? All will become clear soon.
Meanwhile enjoy a rough draft of my Bauhaus/Alchemist influenced poster.
Major inspiration taken from Sagmeister’s ‘Made you...

Virtual Friendship; Will it last?
Onto the next Assignment. This time round we were to focus in on a specific topic from our last project, and examine it further. Using brainstorming and mind-mapping skills we’ve acquired over the last month or so to do this. First thing to do was Brainstorm our chosen subject in groups, I chose how we socially interact. Tackling this in our Brainstorm, we came up with different issues...

Observe/Imagine/Design
‘Observe/Imagine/Design - Make Things/Make Sense’ Yet another reaction wallpaper. Featuring some words I took away from my weekly lectures on design. There are many different processes you can take to Design work, deemed as ‘the correct way to approach Design’ The three words Observe, Imagine and Design simplifies it all down. To observe your surroundings, imagine how...

The Influencers
This documentary takes you on a journey through New York, focusing on ‘The Influencers’. Looking in detail about the individuals who inspire others, who become the people to watch and who know what it takes to find cool, and then make it cool. In the midst of a project based on ‘The Tipping Point’ this film is like striking gold. It mentions the effect that different...

Think Big & Dare to Dare
‘Think Big & Dare to Dare’ A remark made during my Friday lecture. We’ve been encouraged to post our opinions in response to what we were told during our weekly lecture, rather than post a long-winded piece of text in an attempt to put forth my opinion. Designing a piece of work to portray this instead is far more satisfying. This one blends in nicely with the...
